Amazon Echo Spot Silently Launched In India At $157

Amazon today expanded its range of Echo smart speakers in the Indian market with the launch of Echo Spot, that differentiates itself from the rest with its circular display and a built-in camera. The company didn’t formally announce the Echo Spot in India but made it available right away earlier today. It carries a price tag of Rs. 12,999 ($194) but is currently available at an introductory price of Rs. 10,499 ($157). Under a special offer, Amazon is offering an extra discount of Rs. 1,000 ($15) when the Echo Spot is purchased in a pair, bringing down the effective price of each unit to Rs. 9,999 ($150).

Along with the launch of a new Echo device, the Echo Dot and Echo have also got their prices cut for a limited time. The former has been discounted by Rs. 500 ($7) to be available at Rs. 3,999 ($60), while the latter is now available at Rs. 7,999 ($120), down from Rs. 9,999. When purchased in pairs, the Echo Dot will get an extra Rs. 500 off, while the second-gen Echo will get an extra Rs. 1,000 off. The Echo Plus – the most expensive Echo device in India – hasn’t received any price cut from its current retail price of Rs. 14,999 ($225), but Amazon is including a free Philips Hue bulb with each purchase. Credit and debit card holders of the ICICI Bank will get an additional 10-percent cashback on purchase of any of the four Echo-branded smart speakers available in India.

Besides responding with voice, the Spot is capable of providing a visual feedback through its 2.5-inch circular display. Its camera is primarily used to make video calls to other Alexa users, while the included screen helps watch flash briefings, videos, calendar, timers, etc. Designed to be reminiscent of a bedside clock, the Echo Spot has a built-in 1.4-inch speaker but supports connectivity to external speakers both via Bluetooth and AUX cable. The retail giant announced the Echo Spot last September as a cheaper alternative to the Echo Show that comes sporting a larger 7-inch display, which is better suited for watching video content. Around the same time, Amazon brought its Echo line of smart speakers to India for beta testing with Indianized Alexa onboard. The three Alexa-powered speakers – the Echo Dot, second-gen Echo, and the Echo Plus – were made available for all after a couple of months. (Via androidheadlines)
