Xiaomi Mi 6 to OnePlus 5: 5 Snapdragon 835 smartphones likely to launch in India

Qualcomm‘s newest Snapdragon 835 is to power a range of flagship smartphones this year. Built using the 10nm fabrication process, the processor promises more efficiency with low power consumption. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835 SoC is 35 percent smaller, and uses 25 percent less power than previous designs. Among its potential, the processor supports augmented reality or virtual reality capabilities in devices, along with offering enhanced camera feature.


Among the smartphones which are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, the upcoming OnePlus 5 is likely to be the first device to debut in India. While it is confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will indeed house the new processor, here’s a look at some of the existing as well as upcoming smartphones which are expected to be launched in India with the Snapdragon 835 SoC.



OnePlus 5

The only smartphone confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 835 SoC, the OnePlus 5 is already seeing the consumer excitement lighting up. While there are scant details about the upcoming smartphone, it is expected to feature a 5.5-inch QHD 2K resolution display and will be available in two variants; one with 6GB of RAM +64GB of internal storage and other with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Xiaomi Mi 6

One of the newest to come from Xiaomi’s portfolio, the Mi 6 leverages the Snapdragon 835 processor’s capabilities of supporting dual camera module by featuring a pair of 12-megapixel rear cameras with 4K video support. In addition to that, the smartphone houses 6GB of RAM. Recently, Xiaomi India’s Manu Kumar Jain posted a tweet, which hinted at some upcoming product on July 23. If reports are to be believed, it could be the debut of the Mi 6 in India. It is internationally priced at RMB 2,499 for the base variant (approximately Rs 23,500) and goes up to the Ceramic edition costing RMB 2,999 (approximately Rs 28,200). HTC U11

The ‘squeezable’ phone from HTC, the U11 features what is called as the ‘Edge Sense’ technology. It allows users to apply different levels of pressure to navigate, or open apps on the smartphone. With Snapdragon 835 SoC inside, the HTC U11 supports a 5.5-inch quad HD display and includes Auto HDR support for the rear camera. It is available in the US at $749, which translates to approximately Rs 48,000.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

While Sony is lagging in the smartphone market, it aims to catch up with the Xperia XZ Premium, which is powered by the newest Qualcomm SoC. Crafted from glass loop surface with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium boasts a 5.5-inch 4K HDR display for a dynamic contrast. In addition to that, there is support for super slow motion video recording at 960fps with its 19-megapixel rear camera. When launched in India, it would be sit in the premium category with a price tag of approximately Rs 53,600. 

Essential Phone

Coming from the father of Android, Andy Robin, the Essential Phone is bound to attract attention. Launched this week, the smartphone boasts the world’s thinnest dual camera module in a titanium and ceramic crafted body. With Snapdragon 835 SoC at its heart, the smartphone brings support for magnetic accessories, support for edge-to-edge quad HD display, and a 3,040mAh battery with fast charging. While the above-mentioned smartphones are confirmed, there are two more devices which are expected to join the list of Snapdragon 835 SoC-powered smartphones. These include the Nokia 9 and the nubia Z17. The Nokia 9 has been spotted in numerous leaks in the past. It is speculated that the smartphone will feature a 5.27-inch quad HD display and house up to 8GB of RAM. Additionally, it is expected to be equipped with a dual camera module.


Talking about the nubia Z17; based on the GeekBench leaks, it is expected the smartphone will also house up to 8GB of RAM and feature a vertically positioned dual camera module. There are also rumors about the smartphone featuring an edge-to-edge display
