Motorola Defy + officially announced

Our favourite rugged Android smartphone has just been updated with new internals, just to keep it current and relative. Motorola has made their new droid official, calling it the Defy + and it will be available in Germany first starting next month for 269 euro without a contract. There’s no word on when this will land on our shores but we’re hoping sometime this year itself.

The housing for the Defy + remains the same which means it's still water resistant, dust proof, scratch proof, etc. It even looks almost identical to the current Defy and it should, since the screen size and design hasn’t really changed. The old 800MHz processor is chucked out, making way for a 1GHz CPU that should give you a nice 25 percent boost in performance. Along with that, we also have Gingerbread 2.3 with MOTOBLUR running on top. The battery department has improved as well, in order to compensate for the extra power in the Defy +. We now have a 1700mAh battery pack which should give us a slightly better battery life. If you already own a Defy, there’s no point in even thinking of upgrading since it’s not a major upgrade. However, if you were planning on buying one then waiting a bit longer wouldn't hurt. Here are some of the highlights of the Defy +
  • 3.7-inch Gorilla Glass Display
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot, GPS with A-GPS support
  • Bluetooth
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • Secondary front facing camera
  • 2GB Internal storage
  • Memory expandable to 32GB via MicroSD card
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • 1700 mAH battery
  • Android 2.3
