Google slip-up reveals Jelly Bean is Android 4.1

In the past, there had been numerous speculations on as to what the version number of the next Google update would be. Over the past few months, the entire world was under the impression that Google would opt to use the Android 5.0 version number for their next OS, Jelly Bean. A report had surfaced, recently showing that the version number would be Android 4.1 and not 5.0. While that was all speculation, back in the day it now appears that Google may have just confirmed this in a listing on Google Play store for the Galaxy Nexus.

As per a report by Droid Life, Jelly Bean will be Android 4.1, according to the Google Play listing for the Galaxy Nexus. We all had, sort of assumed that 4.1 would be the next, but now the question remains, “Will this be outed at Google I/O next week?” If Google is ready to talk about the G-Nex receiving it “soon,” I’d say that we should be surprised if it isn’t unveiled there.” Shortly after that, the brand had taken down the caption, leaving one to assume that this indeed could be the case.

As per a related report by Wired, the author, Nathan Olivarez-Giles notes, “While the Galaxy Nexus is still available through Google Play, it no longer makes mention of Android 4.1. A shot of the Galaxy Nexus sporting a new pink and green wallpaper and what looks like a new search box still shows up (as seen above) on Google Play when the Galaxy Nexus is in a user’s shopping cart.” The website goes on to add, “Google declined to comment on the Google Play mishap, or on the Jelly Bean nickname. One bit of detail not disclosed on Google Play or by Google is when the next iteration of Android will arrive. A good time for such a launch would, of course, be Google I/O, the company’s massive developer conference taking place June 27-29 in San Francisco.”

The last time the version number had surfaced, was in a leaked benchmark of the upcoming Google Nexus tablet, which is believed to be called the Google ASUS Nexus 7. The leaked image of the benchmark also displays the SDK version as 4.1 and hence the OS will be termed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
