How to Apologize Correctly?

altFew of us have the ability to own up and apologise for our blunders.
If a voice from inside tells you “why can’t she make the first move?”, then you know it is your EGO playing the trick.
Ego is nothing but your false pride that centers on you and nobody else! Listed below are few techniques you may adopt to apologise correctly to ensure that you get the appropriate response.

Plan your moves

Plan and prepare yourself before you approach the person. Write down your feelings and do not divert from the topic. Think of what went wrong, the consequences of your actions and how you could make amendment. If you have upset your girlfriend, apologise in a romantic way.

Time your apology

Depending on the gravity of the situation, choose the correct time to apologise. Find a calm moment when you are in control of your emotions and take the person aside to speak out your mind.

Speak softly

Lower your tone of voice while apologising and speak softly so that you don’t sound confrontational. Speak gently to and let them know that you are genuinely sorry for what happened.

Look into the eyes and talk

Make lot of eye contacts to show that you are suffering from your mistake. It also goes to show that you are not hiding anything from the person.

Explain and apologise

Explain what happened without getting into an argumentative mode. Say “I am deeply sorry that I insulted you”. Take responsibility for your actions. Say only things that you think will rectify your relationship with the person.

Listen and sympathize

An apology on your part doesn’t mean that you will be forgiven instantly. Listen and sympathize with the other person’s feelings. Allow them to express their anger.

Move ahead on a positive note

Don’t end the apology abruptly. After you have done your bit, end it on a positive note. You may hug or shake hands with the person thus paving way to a fresh new start.
